Sohar Port and Freezone inks agreement for zinc ash recycling park

Sohar Port and Freezone has signed a USD 50 mln investment agreement with Oman Zinc LLC to develop a Zinc Ash Recycling Industrial Park on a 10-hectare site within the Sohar Freezone, according to a press release.

The phased project will process zinc ash and electric arc furnace (EAF) dust, producing up to 10,000 tons per year of refined zinc ingots and 50,000 tons per year of rubber-grade zinc oxide. The outputs will supply downstream industries across the GCC, Southeast Asia, Europe and Africa, including galvanizing, alloys, rubber, batteries and specialty chemicals.

Designed to convert steelmaking residues into value-added materials, the project supports circular economy manufacturing and strengthens Sohar’s role as a regional hub for sustainable metals processing. Feedstock will be imported via Sohar Port, creating an integrated value chain linking global shipping, processing and export manufacturing within the Freezone.
