Fujitsu launches green steel value-tracking pilot using digital technologies

Fujitsu has begun a demonstration project to test the traceability and transmission of green steel’s environmental value across the steel supply chain, starting in December 2025. The initiative was selected by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry under its FY2025 industrial research program.

Running through February 2026, the pilot uses Fujitsu’s expertise in CO2-reduction materials, blockchain, and data-distribution platforms to securely share data while protecting transaction confidentiality. The project focuses on ensuring that environmental value, such as emissions-reduction certificates linked to green steel, can move from upstream producers to downstream users without duplication or loss.

As part of the trial, Fujitsu is building a data-distribution platform to support traceability and prevent double counting, working with steel industry participants and third-party certification.

Based on the results, the company plans to explore broader deployment of green steel information-sharing mechanisms and potential expansion into a dedicated steel industry data space from 2026, supporting decarbonization and digital transformation across manufacturing.
