Tenaris restarts heat treatment operations at Koppel plant

Tenaris is restarting heat treatment and finishing operations at its Koppel, Pennsylvania facility, reinforcing its focus on supplying domestically produced steel pipes to the US energy sector. The move follows a USD 2.1 mln investment to reactivate the lines, with the company hiring more than 80 employees to support operations.

The Koppel site plays a key role in Tenaris’s integrated US manufacturing system. Steel billets produced at the plant’s electric arc furnace are rolled into seamless OCTG at Ambridge, Pennsylvania, before returning to Koppel for heat treatment, finishing, and inspection. Final threading and inspection are carried out at Tenaris’s Brookfield, Ohio facility.

The restart builds on more than USD 150 mln invested in the adjacent Koppel steel shop in recent years, including an USD 85 mln exhaust system upgrade to improve sustainability, as well as scrap supply integration through the acquisition of the Beaver Falls yard by Tenaris subsidiary Steel Recycling Services.
