Tokyo Steel keeps January prices unchanged amid mixed market signals

Tokyo Steel, Japan’s leading electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker, has decided to maintain all product prices for January sales under its latest monthly pricing policy. HRC (1.7-22 mm) remains at JPY 86,000 (USD 545) per ton, pickled and oiled coil (1.7-6 mm) at JPY 92,000 (USD 583) per ton, and coated coil (0.9-1.6 mm) at JPY 121,000 (USD 766) per ton. In long products, rebar (13-25 mm) stays at JPY 82,000 (USD 519) per ton and H-beams at JPY 103,000 (USD 652) per ton.

The company cited a mixed global and domestic backdrop for the decision. Overseas, geopolitical developments and tariff-related uncertainties require close monitoring, even as U.S. steel indicators remain firm and Asian prices show modest pre-holiday gains. Domestically, shipments are subdued due to winter-related construction delays, although signs of gradual recovery are emerging through short-lead bulk orders and ongoing redevelopment projects.

Despite rising production costs, Tokyo Steel said current market conditions warrant price stability for now, while it continues to align output with demand and manage supply-demand balance.
