Beco Steel Limited has commenced installation of a 5-megawatt solar power plant, aimed at reducing energy costs and improving operational efficiency, the company said.
The contract for the installation of solar panels has been awarded, and procurement and project arrangements are currently underway. In parallel, the company has applied for the required sanctioned load from Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO). Both the solar installation and the load enhancement are expected to be completed within around four months.
Once commissioned, the 5 MW system is expected to generate an average of 600,000 kWh of electricity per month, resulting in estimated cost savings of around PKR 201 mln (USD 0.7 mln) annually, Beco Steel said.
The move follows the company’s earlier announcement last year of a 2 MW solar power project at its Badami Bagh plant in Lahore. Beco Steel said the renewable energy investments are part of its broader strategy to lower production costs, enhance efficiency, and reduce its carbon footprint, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.
Lahore-based Beco Steel Limited is a public limited company incorporated in Pakistan in 1984. The company’s annual melting capacity is 99,400 tons and rerolling capacity is 99,000 tons per annum. The company produces billets, angles, channels, round and square bars.
