Acciaieria Arvedi secures renewable-backed power supply

Acciaieria Arvedi has entered into a partnership with Metlen to secure electricity supply under Italy’s Energy Release 2.0 mechanism, promoted by Gestore Servizi Energetici (GSE).

Under the agreement, Metlen will provide around 2.4 TWh of electricity to Acciaieria Arvedi, offering access to more stable and competitive power pricing at a time of continued volatility in European energy markets. As part of the arrangement, Metlen plans to commission approximately 170 MW of new solar capacity in Italy over the next three years.

The deal reflects broader efforts by energy-intensive industries to mitigate high electricity costs in Europe through long-term supply arrangements linked to renewable energy development. The Energy Release 2.0 framework is designed to combine industrial power supply with accelerated investment in domestic renewable capacity.

Acciaieria Arvedi is Italy’s largest steel producer, supplying carbon and stainless steel products, including advanced HSLA grades, to a wide range of European industrial and automotive customers.
