Azizi Developments said its industrial arm, Azizi Industries, has signed the main technology contract for a greenfield rebar rolling mill to be built at Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD), marking the group’s formal entry into steel manufacturing.
The core rolling mill technology has been awarded to POMINI Long Rolling Mills, while Dastur Engineering International has been appointed as principal consultant. Azizi said the project supports its strategy to internalize production of key construction materials and reduce reliance on external suppliers.
The mill will have a designed capacity of around 600,000 tons per year and will process 150×150 mm billets into high-strength quenched and tempered rebars compliant with BS 4449 standards. Larger diameters, up to 50 mm, will be produced on a central rolling line, while smaller sizes down to 8 mm will be rolled on a high-speed finishing line. The product mix will include 8-16 mm rebars in coil form via a spooler line and 8-50 mm straight-length rebars.
Azizi said locating the project at KEZAD provides access to a growing heavy-industry hub in Abu Dhabi and aligns with UAE objectives to expand domestic manufacturing capacity and support the country’s expanding infrastructure pipeline.
