MMK develops high-performance hot-rolled corrugated steel

Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works (MMK) has developed and begun production of a new class of hot-rolled ribbed (corrugated) steel whose mechanical properties are guaranteed to meet defined strength and impact standards, the company said in a press release.

The new product, produced with one-sided lenticular corrugation, is manufactured with widths up to 2,000 mm and thicknesses from 4 mm to 14 mm, creating expanded usage options for customers across industrial and safety-critical applications.

MMK said its engineers have implemented a new technology that allows the steel to comply not only with GOST 8568-77, which defines chemical composition for grooved products, but also to guarantee mechanical strength in line with higher strength classes (up to and including class 345 under GOST 19281-2014) and satisfactory impact resistance at test temperatures down to -60 Celsius.

Ribbed or corrugated rolled products are widely used in construction, industrial flooring, metal stair treads and transport sectors, including floors in vehicle bodies and platforms for loading and unloading equipment, where surface stiffness and mechanical performance are critical. MMK said more than 2,500 tons of the new ribbed products have already been shipped to customers, underscoring early commercial uptake.
