Turkish steel producer Habas has launched the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process for its steelmaking plant project after the application file submitted to Turkey’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change was reviewed.
The project is planned to be built in Dortyol, Hatay, with a total investment value of around TRY 4.96 bln (USD 113 mln), according to local media reports.
The planned facility will have an annual billet production capacity of 1.75 mln tons. No by-products are expected from the process, and all billets produced will be used as feedstock for the Habas Yesilkoy rolling mill.
The project forms part of the company’s ongoing investments aimed at strengthening its steel production chain and supporting downstream rolling operations.
Founded in 1956, Habas is one of Turkey’s major industrial groups and operates an integrated steel plant with an annual capacity of 4.5 mln tons, producing billets, rebar, wire rod and HRC.
