MagMetallPak LLC, part of the MMK Group, specializes in the production of packaging components used to protect finished steel products during transportation and storage for Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK).
The company has been introducing new product protection technologies across MMK’s facilities. All-metal protective covers are currently used at Sheet Rolling Shops No. 4 and No. 8, as well as at the northern coated metal production unit, to shield rolled products from atmospheric exposure.
Protective covers are also applied to cold-rolled coils transported in open-top railcars and shipments handled by MMK Trading House. In addition, traditional metal sheet packaging has been replaced with a 3.5 mm textured polymer sheet, reducing costs while improving protection against mechanical damage.
MagMetallPak plans to increase annual production of perforated protective corners for steel coils to 360,000 units per year at its own facilities, MMK said.
MMK is a major Russian steel producer operating a fully integrated production chain, from iron ore preparation and coke production to the manufacture of downstream steel products. The company has an annual crude steel production capacity of around 14.5 mln tons per annum.
