BlueScope Steel has produced the first galvanized coil at its new continuous galvanizing line in Sydney, Australia, marking a key milestone in the commissioning process, according to technology supplier ANDRITZ.
The milestone marks the transition from commissioning to production, ahead of project completion and performance testing. The new line is intended to strengthen BlueScope’s domestic manufacturing capabilities and meet demand for coated steel products used in building, construction, manufacturing and industrial applications.
The line has a nominal annual production capacity of 240,000 tons and is designed to process steel strip up to 1,325 mm wide and 0.30-1 mm thick, at speeds of up to 160 metres per minute.
ANDRITZ supplied the process equipment, automation and electrical systems, along with engineering, commissioning and start-up services. Key technologies include a skin-pass mill, tension leveler, coaters, a direct-fired furnace and electric radiant tube heating technology designed to support product quality, operational flexibility and energy-efficient production.
Headquartered in Australia, BlueScope Steel is an international steel products company with operations across Australia, New Zealand, North America and Asia.
