Turkey’s imports of billets and blooms increased by over 5pct YoY in the first ten months of 2024, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).
During the January-October period, Turkey imported 2.8 mln tons of semi-finished steel. Russia was the leading supplier, providing 541,200 tons of billets, followed by Malaysia with 531,800 tons, Indonesia with 329,700 tons, and China with 256,300 tons.
In October 2024 alone, Turkey imported 628,500 tons of billets and blooms, marking a significant surge, five times the volume recorded in October 2023, and nearly doubling compared to the previous month.
