Minister breaks ground on electric bus assembly plant at Umm Al Houl Free Zone

Qatar’s Minister of Transport, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani, has laid the foundation for an electric bus assembly plant at the Umm Al Houl Free Zone. The project is a collaboration between Mowasalat (Karwa), Yutong, and the Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZ).

Spanning 53,000 square meters, the plant will produce EU-standard electric buses, including city buses, metro feeders, and school buses, with an initial output of 300 units per year. The facility, set to be completed by the end of 2025, will scale production to meet both local and international demand, particularly in the MENA region and Europe.

The greenfield plant will feature advanced workshops for welding, painting, assembly, and testing, using cutting-edge electro-mobility technologies for efficient and sustainable production.
