HBIS Xuanhua Iron and Steel Group, in collaboration with Primetals Technologies, has successfully started up a slab caster with an annual capacity of 1.5 mln tons at its low-carbon-emission production facility in Xuanhua, Hebei province. The project, completed two weeks ahead of schedule, includes a full mechanical scope and a complete Level 1 and 2 automation system provided by Primetals.
The slab caster will produce a variety of steel grades, including stainless steel, and features advanced technologies like DynaFlex hydraulic oscillators for improved strand-surface quality. Other innovations include Smart Segments for flexible control of slab width and thickness, DynaJet air-mist nozzles for optimal cooling, and Mold Expert for automatic breakout detection.
Process models such as Dynacs 3D, Yield Expert, and Quality Expert ensure precise control over production parameters, optimizing yield and product quality.
HBIS Group, one of China’s largest steel producers, focuses on high-end products such as automobile plates, special steel, and vanadium-titanium materials. Its Xuanhua plant, the world’s first hydrogen-based iron- and steelmaking facility, will produce nearly zero-carbon steel for high-demand sectors like the automotive industry.
