WFI and DHX to establish country’s first tinplate manufacturing plant

Al Watania for Industries (WFI) and China’s Donghexin Group (DHX) have announced a joint venture to establish Saudi Arabia’s first integrated tinplate manufacturing plant. This strategic initiative aims to localize a key component of the metal packaging value chain, aligning with the economic diversification goals of Saudi Vision 2030.

The new facility, to be built in Ras Al-Khair Industrial City, will have an annual production capacity of 400,000 tons of tinplate. This will meet domestic demand and position Saudi Arabia as a regional exporter. The project will cater to the growing demand for tinplate in the MENA region and leverage WFI’s and DHX’s advanced technologies, operational capabilities, and market expertise, creating a competitive advantage for the joint venture.

The plant is expected to create over 500 jobs, contributing to local workforce development and knowledge transfer. It will also strengthen the industrial supply chain, boost exports, and reduce reliance on imports, in line with Saudi Vision 2030.

WFI CEO Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Juaid stated that the project, expected to commence operations by early 2027, marks a significant step toward increasing local content, supporting the food industries, and fostering industrial self-reliance. WFI, a major industrial company in Saudi Arabia with over 50 years of experience, is ranked among the top 100 Saudi companies and focuses on packaging and building materials production.
