SMS group has signed a major contract with Qinghai Xigang New Materials Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Xining Special Steel, to upgrade and maintain its PSM380 (Precision Sizing Mill) used for rolling special steel bars. The upgrade aims to enhance production efficiency, improve product quality, and strengthen Xigang New Materials’ position in China’s special steel market.
The modernization will improve dimensional accuracy, reduce labor costs in downstream processing, and enable the mill to handle a wider range of steel grades. Special focus will be placed on achieving a refined microstructure and maintaining high quality in low-temperature rolling. These improvements are expected to boost product quality and increase order volumes.
Upon completion, the mill will feature faster specification changes, reduced downtimes, and higher overall output. Additionally, the revamp will enhance consistency, minimize bar head and tail cropping, and improve yield, increasing the mill’s annual production.
As part of the agreement, Xigang New Materials has signed a comprehensive maintenance contract with SMS group, which will provide ongoing support under its “lifecycle partnership” concept. This milestone marks a significant step for SMS’s TOS (Technical and Operational Services) in China, addressing equipment maintenance needs and supporting Xigang’s strategic growth.
