IMI to build country’s first offshore jack-up rig for ARO Drilling

International Maritime Industries (IMI), the largest maritime facility in the MENA region, has signed an agreement with ARO Drilling to construct a new offshore jack-up rig, KINGDOM 3.

This deal strengthens the strategic partnership between the two companies, advancing offshore industry capabilities in Saudi Arabia. According to IMI, KINGDOM 3 will be the first drilling rig built in Saudi Arabia, marking a major milestone for the country’s offshore sector and aligning with Vision 2030 goals.

IMI’s 12 mln-square-meter facility in Ras Al-Khair will have the capacity to produce up to six jack-up rigs, 25 offshore support vessels, and 18 large commercial ships annually, including chemical, bulk, and crude carriers. It will also provide maintenance and repair services for up to 250 vessels and 15 rigs each year.

IMI is a joint venture between Aramco, Bahri, Hyundai Heavy Industries, and Lamprell.
