Jindal Steel Oman has signed a two-year, USD 1 bln partnership with ArcelorMittal Tubular Products Al-Jubail (AMTPJ), a leading Saudi Arabian seamless pipe producer. Under the agreement, the Omani integrated steelmaker will supply round steel billets, a key raw material used in seamless pipe production.
AMTPJ operates a seamless tube mill in Saudi Arabia, catering to the rapidly growing energy markets in Saudi Arabia, the wider Middle East, North Africa, and beyond. Commissioned in 2014, the plant has an annual production capacity of 600,000 tons. It manufactures a broad range of products for upstream, midstream, and downstream energy sectors, as well as industrial and process applications. In 2021, AMTPJ expanded its operations by acquiring Jubail Energy Services Company (JESCO), alongside the Public Investment Fund (PIF). JESCO adds another 400,000 tons per year of seamless tube capacity.
Jindal’s operations in Oman are spearheaded by Jindal Steel Sohar and Jindal Steel Duqm. Jindal Steel Sohar, formerly Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel, is the largest privately owned integrated steel producer in the GCC. Its facilities include a 1.8 mln ton per annum gas-based DRI plant, a 2.4 mln ton melt shop equipped with advanced electric arc and ladle furnaces, and a 1.4 mln ton rebar rolling mill. In 2023, the group expanded further by acquiring Sohar Steel, adding 700,000 tons of long products capacity, including rebar and wire rod. Jindal Steel Duqm, also known as Vulcan Green Steel, is developing 5 mln tons per annum green steel complex in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), Oman.
