Scrap import prices jump on new bookings

Turkey’s imported scrap prices surged this week to USD 360-370 per ton CFR, up from USD 355-360 last week, driven by fresh bookings from Turkish steel mills.

Buying activity strengthened as domestic rebar demand remained firm and mills stepped up restocking. At the same time, suppliers raised offers amid higher freight costs, tighter winter scrap availability, and a stronger euro.

On the export side, Turkish finished steel sales stayed sluggish, with weak global demand and exhausted EU quotas limiting sales opportunities.

Rising scrap costs also pushed export offers higher by about USD 5 per ton week-on-week, with rebar now at USD 565-570 per ton FOB and wire rod at USD 575-580 per ton FOB.
