Leone Rock Metal Group has awarded Metso a contract to supply minerals processing equipment for Phase III of the Tonkolili iron ore project’s 30-mln-ton magnetite concentrator in Sierra Leone.
Metso’s scope covers engineering, manufacturing, supply, installation, and commissioning support, along with spare parts, for a primary gyratory crusher, six cone crushers, two vertical regrinding mills with 5.6 MW installed power, and a high-rate thickener. The vertical mills and thickener are designed to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon emissions, and enhance overall production performance.
Leone Rock Metal Group operates across mining, processing, transport, and steel production. Located in Sierra Leone’s Northern Province, the Tonkolili project holds an estimated 13.7 bln tons of iron ore reserves. Once completed, the Phase III plant is expected to process 30 mln tons of ore per year, producing around 10 mln tons of iron concentrate annually.
